Trail Fun through Stellenbosch wine farms

This trail run was organised by Fun Trails. A company that organises fun runs through wine farms.

The trails are safe, well-marked and of course fun with a choice in distances from 5km to 21km. And because it’s just for fun, you can even walk the whole route if you prefer.

It’s a great way to discover beautiful vineyards while getting your body moving in the fresh Stellenbosch air.

Check out trailfun.co.za for details.

Banhoek Conservancy Trails

Banhoek Conservancy

This trail forms part of the Banhoek Conservancy on the Bethlehem farm situated in the town of Kylemore between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.

There are a myriad of well maintained and demarcated trails in the Banhoek valley for casual ramblers, serious hikers, trail runners and cyclists.

The price of the permits go towards the upkeep of the trails, the environment and the uplift of communities in the area.

Visit banhoekconservancy.org for more information.

Eden Forest, Paradyskloof

Aka the Star Wars forest lies on the foothills of the Hottentots-Holland Mountain Catchment area in the opulent suburb of Paradyskloof.

Apparently there’s a lovely waterfall within fairly easy reach of the forest but we were clearly too enamoured by the well kept Star Wars themed trails in amongst the pine forest

Babylonstoren

Babylonstoren is legendary in the Stellenbosch, Franschhoek region and is a must for visitors and locals alike.

The sheer scale of their garden is impressive even if your fingers are completely lacking in green hues like mine are. It makes for a magical meandering day out for kids aged 8 to 80.

Explore Stellenbosch

Obviously this list is a drop in the wine barrel of walking trails in and around Stellenbosch, but merely a handful of options that we can personally recommend. Seriously though, if you throw a cork in Stellenbosch you’ll hit a wine farm or walking trail.

To be quite honest we simply didn’t have enough time to visit all the wine farms and trails while we were in living in our Stellenbosch Silo – if you want to see what it’s like inside a silo, watch this video. And if you want to find out why we ran out of time and where we are now, you’ll have to subscribe and click the notifications button, because we’ll be sharing that story in the next video.
